Right now, BlackBerry® wireless service providers are rolling out exciting new features for BlackBerry® Internet Service. Upgrade to the latest version of BlackBerry Internet Service to take advantage of these new features.
Upgrading is easy. Just log on to your wireless service provider's BlackBerry Internet Service website. Check this list if you're not sure which service provider manages your BlackBerry Internet Service.
- If you are prompted to upgrade, follow the instructions to upgrade to the latest version
- If you are not prompted to upgrade, you may already be on the latest version and enjoying some of the new features described below
- If you are not prompted to upgrade and you don't have some of the new features available to you, it's possible that your carrier is not yet on the latest version of BlackBerry Internet Service. You may wish to contact your service provider to determine when the new features will be made available.
New Features for BlackBerry Internet Service
BlackBerry Internet Service now comes with these exciting features:
Improved Email Management
Note: All email addresses that you currently have integrated with the BlackBerry Internet Service will still be integrated once you upgrade
- Configure the individual email accounts you use with BlackBerry Internet Service by setting different filters, reply-to addresses, friendly names and auto-signatures for each one. With multiple Sent From addresses, you can choose which integrated account you wish to send from when you reply to or compose a new email. Plus, each integrated email account will have a separate message inbox on your BlackBerry device, rather than having all messages appear only in one inbox1.
- View and manage email messages right from your BlackBerry device. With the new updates to the BlackBerry Internet Service, there's no longer an additional inbox or mail storage quota to manage on the BlackBerry Internet Service website2. To simplify mail management, the webmail/inbox functionality of the BlackBerry Internet Service website that let you view messages from all integrated accounts using a desktop browser will disappear when you upgrade.
- Configure the settings for each account (such as filters and friendly names) using the BlackBerry Internet Service website as you're used to — however, the webmail/inbox functionality of the BlackBerry Internet Service website will no longer exist.
- Manage incoming email in one location. Improved message synchronization for integrated email accounts means email that you read on your BlackBerry device is marked as Read in the originating email address inbox. Messages that you delete on your BlackBerry device will be deleted in the originating email address inbox. Replies that you send from your BlackBerry device are saved in the Sent Items folder of the integrated email address3.
Easier Email Set Up
Adding new accounts is easier than ever with a more streamlined email set up process.
Enhanced Attachment Viewing
- Review PowerPoint presentations in a convenient slideshow format.
- Continue to view popular attachment formats including JPEG, BMP, TIFF, Microsoft® Word, Excel and PowerPoint®, Corel®, WordPerfect® and Adobe® PDF. Whether it's a key file from work or a photo from a friend, you've got access when you want it.
Before You Upgrade
Please complete the following steps before you upgrade to BlackBerry Internet Service v2.0.
- If you are changing the BlackBerry device associated with your BlackBerry Internet Service account, please log into your BlackBerry Internet Service account or contact your carrier customer support center to make the device association change before upgrading to BlackBerry Internet Service v2.0.
- If there are any messages in the inbox of the BlackBerry Internet Service website that you do not have a copy of elsewhere (such as a copy on the BlackBerry device or in the originating account) please forward a copy of these messages to another email account, as the webmail/inbox view of your messages will disappear from the BlackBerry Internet Service website when you upgrade. After you upgrade, if a copy of a message exists on your BlackBerry device, you will still have access to that message for 30 days.
- Any contact information stored on the current v1.8 BlackBerry Internet Service website will not be accessible after upgrading to BlackBerry Internet Service v2.0.
Important Notes
- After 30 days, messages sent to your BlackBerry email address and integrated email accounts cannot be replied to or forwarded from the device and you will be unable to request more of these messages, or view any attachments, in these messages from the device. If you wish to keep a copy of any of these messages indefinitely, forward them to another email account. For integrated email accounts, a copy of the message will still be available in your originating email account.
- Existing filters will not carry over if you upgrade. Your filters will need to be set up again for each email account.
- Depending on your email accounts, you may be prompted to download BlackBerry Mail Connector (a free application that enables BlackBerry Internet Service to access emails behind your corporate firewall).
