Minimum Requirements

Before getting started, it’s important to confirm you have the minimum hardware and configuration requirements for installing BlackBerry® Enterprise Server for Novell® GroupWise®.

Confirm you have the minimum hardware and configuration requirements:

  • Minimum required hardware and configuration: Intel® Pentium® IV processor (2GHz or greater), 1.5 GB RAM and 60 GB hard drive
  • Windows® 2000 Server (Server or Advanced Server Editions—Service Pack 4 or later) or Windows Server 2003 (Service Pack 1 or later)
  • MSDE 2000a or Microsoft® SQL Server™ 2000, Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Standard, Enterprise and Express editions, collocated or remote (MDS Service is not supported on Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express)
  • Integrates with Novell® GroupWise® 6.5 (Service Pack 1 or later) and Novell GroupWise 7.0 or later
  • Novell GroupWise 7.0.1 IR 1 is required if using SOAP mode in BlackBerry Enterprise Server v4.1 Service Pack 2 or later
  • If the BlackBerry Enterprise Server is configured for SOAP mode, please ensure that the GroupWise Post Office that contains the BlackBerry® users has SOAP enabled
  • Adobe® Acrobat® 3.0 or later to read included PDF documentation

Note: Certain features require a minimum version of BlackBerry software.

Continue to Step 2 – Pre-installation Tasks

Pre-installation Tasks

To successfully complete a BlackBerry® Enterprise Server installation, you must complete the following pre-installation tasks:

  • Ensure you have a fully functioning Novell® GroupWise® email environment
  • Ensure that you have a valid and initialized GroupWise mailbox ID to specify in the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Configuration Wizard. The GroupWise account needs a current, English version, Frequent Contacts address book created by the system. Using an eDirectory login ID without a GroupWise Mailbox assigned to it is not sufficient. For more information, read the BlackBerry Technical Solution Center article KB13804.

Add a User Account to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server

Easy steps to add a user account

  • In the BlackBerry® Manager, in the left pane, click a BlackBerry® Enterprise Server
  • On the Server Configuration tab, click Common
  • Click Add Users
  • Enter the name of the user to be added in the Search text box
Hint: Enter % to return a list of all users

Assign an Address Book to the user:

  • Click on the Users tab
  • Double click on the user
  • Click on PIM Sync (on the left-hand side)
  • Scroll to the bottom (on the right)
  • Click the empty box next to AddressBookSubscribed
  • Select the appropriate Address Book
  • Select OK
  • Select OK again to get back to the main BlackBerry Manager

When adding a user account to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, you should consider the following:

  • The Novell® GroupWise® system address book must be copied to the BlackBerry Configuration Database. When you add a user account to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, the BlackBerry Manager retrieves the user information from the configuration database. A BlackBerry process synchronizes the users from the Novell GroupWise system address book in the BlackBerry Configuration Database every 12 hours.
  • When you add a new user to the Novell GroupWise messaging server, if you want to add the user to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server before the daily process synchronizes the Novell GroupWise system address book with the BlackBerry Configuration Database, manually refresh the Novell GroupWise system address book in the BlackBerry Configuration Database. Please see the BlackBerry Technical Solution Center article KB05182 for more information.
  • Your user account can only be created on one BlackBerry Enterprise Server at a time. If you have the same user account created on multiple BlackBerry Enterprise Servers it will not work properly.
  • If you are transitioning from another mobile solution for the Novell GroupWise messaging server, you must remove user accounts from that system before adding the user accounts to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
